In the process of gathering visuals for our Witwatersrand collection, we get some pictures that really amaze us. This image, kindly submitted by Peter Walters, is definitely one. Taken in the West Rand Basin, on the West Rand Cons property, this image shows open pit mining of the Kimberley Reef. The Black Reef Formation is incised over the Witwatersrand strata and plunges SSE. In addition, there is also a cross-cutting dyke present.
